Pharmacy First is an NHS service which enables you to get expert advice and treatment for impertigo from our pharmacy, without needing you to see your GP.
Impertigo can be treated in the pharmacy. If you or your child need advice you can come to our pharmacy and get in touch with our pharmacists who will provide you with expert advice.
What is Impetigo?
Impetigo is a common skin infection, often causing red sores or blisters, usually around the nose, mouth, hands, or other exposed areas.
It’s contagious, but treatable!
Signs & Symptoms to Look Out For
- Itching or mild discomfort
- Red sores that quickly rupture, ooze, and form a yellow-brown crust
- Blisters on the skin (especially in children)

Who Can Use Pharmacy First for Impetigo?
Everyone aged 1 year and older.
Treatment & Advice
- Your pharmacist may recommend a topical antibiotic cream if suitable.
- Keep the infected area clean and covered.
- Wash hands frequently and avoid sharing towels or clothing.
- Complete the full course of treatment, even if the skin looks better.

Avoid touching or scratching sores.
Wash hands often with soap and water.
Keep nails short and clean.
Wash bedding, clothing, and towels regularly.
